Joining Delta Phi opens the door to learning new things. Curiosity is one of the building blocks of innovation and leadership and we encourage all our brothers to be constantly learning. It comes in many different forms – learning new life skills that will help you after you leave RPI; making new friends and following your passions through the many clubs available on campus; working together on joint tasks, projects and new adventures. All opportunities to strengthen friendships and brotherhood:
- Our weekly brother meals give you the chance to learn how to make healthy and delicious meals and how to work together to make that happen. Our brother meals are called Elmo dinners, in honor of St. Elmo, the patron saint of mariners. The name St. Elmo has been in use by some chapters of Delta Phi for over 100 years. The practice started at our Yale chapter, who were looking for a distinctive name for their campus home. Hearkening back to the Knights of Malta, who were mariners and whose Maltese Cross symbolizes our fraternity, they chose the name of St. Elmo, often shortening it to Elmo. The practice caught on and at many campuses the names Delta Phi and St. Elmo have become synonymous, adding yet another layer to our long tradition.
- Most of our brothers take on leadership positions in the chapter that help them learn business skills like financial management and budgeting, marketing, human resources and facility management.
- Our alumni fund membership dues that allow our brothers to participate in a broad range of club activities and pursue their specific interests.

- Throughout the school year, alumni and undergraduate brothers meet together for dinners, seminars, projects and social events (an Alumni weekend dinner gathering and a casual summer barbeque) to share ideas and build friendships.
- Delta Phi is a social fraternity and our brotherhood offers a wide range of social events you can join in, including group outings and trips, meals we prepare and enjoy together, social events at the house or just some time relaxing over a game of pool or watching a movie in our dedicated media room.
- We include our undergraduate brothers in alumni-initiated projects that will benefit the alumni and the undergraduates and provide opportunities to build new skills – restoring our billiard table; building new furniture and fixtures for the chapter house; volunteering to help in projects that benefit and give back to the local community.
- We are building an environment that makes it easier to stay ahead of the demands of your schoolwork – an inventory of electronic prototyping tools that allow brothers to model and create interactive projects; professional in-house printing capabilities; virtual meeting capabilities that make it easy to attend conferences and webinars and conduct interviews at home.
For Spring semester 2025, our brothers achieved the highest cumulative GPA (3.4360) of all the Greek houses at Rensselaer.
All of this has one common thread – a brotherhood that provides the opportunity to make lifelong friendships with the brothers you live and socialize with in The Academy and the alumni who are there to guide you through your time at Rensselaer.
You can choose to live in our state-of-the-art chapter house, offering you large, comfortable single and double rooms, an entire floor of common area with an commerical-quality kitchen, a substantial dining area, our own billiard room, a media room for movie-watching and gaming, a library for studying and conferencing, and a private parking lot. All a five-minute walk from campus and across from 84-acre Prospect Park.
At RPI, fraternities recruit new members in both the Fall and Spring semesters. Freshman recruiting occurs annually during the Spring semester. Prospective members are encouraged to meet all of our brothers during the rush season and to attend several chapter-sponsored rush events to determine if Delta Phi is where they want to call home during their time at university.
Our recruitment calendar can be found on our Events page.
